New England Fertility Preservation

is proud to offer our patients the option to preserve their fertility through egg freezing. Egg freezing is a process by which a woman’s eggs are extracted and frozen for later use. This process can be used for women who wish to delay childbearing or for those who have been diagnosed with cancer and will be undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy which could damage their eggs. Freezing your eggs gives you the peace of mind of knowing that you have a chance to have a biological child in the future, even if your fertility is compromised. New England Fertility Preservation is one of the few practices in the area to offer the latest in egg freezing technology, the vitrification process. With vitrification, your eggs are frozen in a way that minimizes the risk of damage, giving you the best chance for a successful pregnancy in the future.

Largest Multiple Birth Without Fertility Drugs

On March 8, 2013, an Ohio woman gave birth to sextuplets, four boys and two girls, at Akron General Medical Center. This is the largest multiple birth in the United States without the use of fertility drugs. The babies, who weighed between 2 pounds, 8 ounces, and 3 pounds, 15 ounces, are doing well and are expected to go home in a few weeks.

The mother, 27-year-old Abbey Clint, had been taking fertility medications to conceive, but she stopped taking them after she learned she was pregnant with six babies. Clint said that she and her husband were “shocked” when they learned they were having sextuplets, but they are “now just really happy and blessed.”

The odds of having sextuplets without fertility drugs are about one in 4.7 billion. Clint’s doctors said that they had never seen anything like it before. “We’ve delivered sextuplets before, but not without medication,” said Dr. James Yoo, who delivered the babies.

The sextuplets are the second set of sextuplets born at Akron General Medical Center. The first set, born in 2009, were also born without fertility drugs.
