After delivery, the belly button may take on an outie or “O” shape. This is because of the stretching of the abdominal muscles and uterus during pregnancy.

During pregnancy, the baby grows inside a sac filled with fluid. The fluid makes the baby’s abdomen grow and the navel then pushes outwards. As the abdomen grows, the connection between the navel and the surrounding abdominal wall muscles become weak and the belly button pops outwards. This protruding effect of the belly button is known as an outie.
Will My Belly Button Return To Normal After Pregnancy?
The good news is that in most cases with time, the abdominal muscles will return to their original shape and the belly button will resume its inward appearance or innie appearance.

- Massage or Acupressure: Massaging the belly button with coconut or baby oil helps to improve the elasticity and to restore the navel to its original shape.
- Opt For Surgery: If the shape of the belly button does not return to normal after trying the aforementioned methods, you could consider a cosmetic surgery to fix it.
In most cases, the belly button will return to normal after pregnancy, but it may take some time. If it does not, there are various methods to help it go back to its original innie shape, such as doing the right exercises, maintaining a healthy diet, massaging the belly button, or even opting for surgery.
